When Doubt Makes You Question Your Faith

How to Bring Your Doubts to God.

Lately I’ve been battling with thoughts that question my walk of faith. I just feel like I’m not good enough to share the gospel. Deep down I know as an human I can’t be perfect. So why do I feel less than when I go about my day? Why is it so hard to live a righteous life? Will my prayers be answered? Are my prayers worth praying? Lastly, how will I know if God hears my prayers?

All because of this five letter word. Doubt.

It’s a small word with big implications, especially when it comes to faith. At some point, most of us have felt a nagging question or uncertainty that cloud our beliefs. And guess what? That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your faith or never had it in the first place. however, if you leave that doubt unchecked you will find yourself in isolation, distrust, disobedience, and eventually in a hardened state of disbelief.

This leads to a life of sin separated from God. This is the enemy’s plan. To separate you from God.The moment you stop believing there will be an opening for an unrighteousness life to set in.

Throughout history, doubt has found its way into the lives of many religious leaders and figures. Think of Moses, who felt as if he was incapable when asked to lead his people out of Egypt, or Thomas, the disciple who needed proof of Jesus’ resurrection John 20:24–29

John the Baptist questioning whether Jesus was the promised Messiah — Matthew 11:2–6

These stories aren’t just old tales; they’re there to remind us that uncertainty isn’t a new guest in the house of faith. Sometimes we doubt being good enough and then there are times we doubt what God can do.

Why does doubt arise in the first place?

Sometimes it begins with an unanswered prayer, a painful experience, a difficult passage of Scripture, or a question we cannot resolve. Asking questions is not necessarily a sign that someone is abandoning God. There is a difference between seeking understanding and approaching God with a heart that has already decided He cannot be trusted. Honest questions can lead us toward truth, but they must be brought to God with humility and a willingness to accept what He reveals.

Doubt does not have to mark the end of your faith, but it should not be ignored. Questions can either drive you away from God or move you to seek Him more honestly. When you bring your uncertainty to God through prayer, examine it through Scripture, and seek guidance from mature believers, doubt can become an opportunity to build a faith that is deeper, clearer, and firmly rooted in Christ.

Finding Strength in Faith: How to Bring Your Doubts to God.

Constructive Ways to Address Doubt

The most important question is not whether doubts arise, but what you do with them. Instead of hiding your questions or allowing them to grow in silence, bring them honestly before God in prayer. You do not need impressive words or a carefully prepared speech. Tell God where you are confused, afraid, or struggling to trust Him. Prayer may not produce an immediate answer, but it turns your attention toward the One who knows your heart and remains faithful even when your understanding is incomplete.

Keep focus on Scripture. Think of it as a guidebook packed with teachings, and wisdom that have comforted and lead believers for centuries. When the doubts hit hard, cracking open that book might just illuminate new insights or remind you of truths that felt distant.

Yet another treasure in addressing doubt is your community. That connection of spiritual brothers and sisters, mentors, and other believers forms a support system like no other. Don’t underestimate the power of easing your worries during a coffee chat with someone who gets it. Share your thoughts, and be open to the varied perspectives they might offer. The idea is not to carry your questions solo but explore them with trusted allies. This is why community was created by God. So that we may not go at this alone.

Finally

Openness is essential when dealing with doubt. Questions kept hidden can create isolation and gradually pull you away from God and other believers. Bring your concerns into the light through honest prayer, careful study of Scripture, and conversation with mature Christians whose guidance is grounded in God’s Word. You may not receive every answer immediately, but you do not have to carry your uncertainty alone. Doubt does not have to become a wall between you and God; when brought honestly to Christ, it can become an invitation to know Him more deeply and trust Him more fully.

Until next time,

Geoff
